Music fans across the globe mourned on July 8 when news broke that singer Bonnie Tyler had passed away. The “Holding Out for a Hero” singer was 75 years old. Her family shared in a Facebook post, “Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.” Tyler had been facing ill health for some time, first undergoing emergency surgery on her intestine in early May, then being placed in an induced coma two days later. She had some slight improvements in mid-June, but her social media team emphasized she was still not out of the woods. “Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,” a statement on her Tyler’s website read.
in addition to her music accolades, which included Grammy, American Music Award, and Brit Award nominations, Tyler was revered for her music, and was honored with an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire, two rankings beneath damehood) in 2022. When speaking about her MBE, which was presented to her by Prince William, she told Hello the honor was “magnificent.”
